Long Term Disability (LTD)
What is LTD Insurance?
City employees may secure added income should disability strike! As a City
Employees Club member, right now – rather than after you suffer a serious
accident or illness, when it’s too late – is the best time to examine your
financial resources if long-term disability were to prevent you from working.
Nearly one-third of all Americans will suffer a serious disability
between the ages of 35 and 65, according to the 2000 “Life Insurers Fact Book”
from the American Council of Life Insurers. In the next hour alone, some 2,330
Americans will suffer a disabling injury – an average of one every two seconds.
Is your lifestyle at risk if you suddenly couldn’t work?
Disability income insurance helps ensure that a portion of your income would
continue if you were to become sick or disabled and unable to work. Should you
suffer a covered disability, you would receive benefits directly to spend on
mortgage payments, rent, groceries or other living expenses – including medical
expenses related to a disability.
The Club has endorsed a disability
insurance plan for City and Department of Water and Power employees that pays
benefits for a covered disability up to age 65. This plan is underwritten by a
member company of American International Group, Inc., The United States Life
Insurance Company in the City of New York. This company has received A.M. Best
Company’s highest rating of A++ (Superior) for superior overall financial
strength and operating performance.
Club members are eligible to apply
for this Club-sponsored plan at group rates. Rate quotes are available quickly
and with no obligation through the plan administrator, The City Employees Club
of Los Angeles. For employee group costs and coverage details, including benefit
amounts, terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations, call the plan
administrator at 1-800-464-0542. Don’t let a disability cut or stop your
paycheck. Protect Your Pay!! If you’re disabled, your paycheck could be slashed
66% - even STOPPED. Imagine living on less than half your pay. If you suffer a
long-term illness or injury, that’s all you might get with the disability
coverage you have now.The Club’s Long Term Disability KICKS IN when you need it
the most.
Just as your sick pay or salary continuation drops to 70% of
your pre-disability pay, The Club’s Long Term Disability starts helping to
support you and your family as soon as your waiting period ends. Whether your
disability happened on or off the job, the Club pays the difference between your
other benefits and 70% of your gross salary. Even when your other sources are
used up, we pat 60% of your gross salary to age 65, as long as you are disabled.
More money to keep!
Your Club LTD benefits are usually tax-free! You probably take home about 70%
to 80% of your gross pay after taxes. Since you pay the premiums, the money you
receive is usually tax-free – meaning your take-home pay stays very close to
what it was before you were disabled. The plan covers partial disability, too.
High quality, affordable premiums. The plan is backed by The United States Life
Insurance Company, rated A+ “superior” for financial stability by A.M. Best
Company, a leading insurance company analyst. Because the Club is a
not-for-profit association, you get The United States Life Insurance Company
quality at an affordable price. Take the next step now! Use the easy worksheet
